WHY WE ARE PRINTING THIS POSTER TO BENEFIT WARD 57
now featured in Stars and Stripes magazine

ward57

Recently, an old friend Doug Cox, owner of a marketing company named Poster Giant, has employed our creative abilities to create original art which we then hand silk screen on heavy poster paper for use as collector's pieces for events, typically touring bands.

While already in the middle of a project for an event, Doug approached to create a slightly different kind of poster. This poster was to be sold for the duration of a tour as a means to benefit the soldiers of Ward 57 at the Walter Reed National Army Medical Center. This is the orthopedics wing where our American soldiers are sent when severely injured. We learned there are many needs to be met there and that a non-profit organization, The Think Big Foundation, was engaged in trying to meet those needs through selling clothing. Through Atmosphere Artist Management, the bands of the Strange Noize Tour have decided to join in this cause. We took this job on short notice and quickly got to work, hashing out the first draft of the design this 2007 Fourth of July before attending celebrations with an American born Cuban business affiliate known for his extravagant independence day bashes.

Looking back we recall Doug, a self-proclaimed Republican, being just a little wary if we would accept the job, aware that we have a "slight" difference of opinions with the Bush Administration's foreign policy. But this was not about that to us. This was about real people facing an extremely difficult and scary time in their lives. They simply needed a little more support than they were getting. We felt, at Mazui, we could convey the right kind of energy into a design that would convey a message of support and generate funds to make that more possible. Our posters are now being sold on tour as well as through The Think Big Foundation and Poster Giant.

Thank you to all involved.

Additional design info:

The image at the bottom of the poster is of the Combat Medic Memorial Statue that stands in front of the U.S. Army Medical Department Museum at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. The top image is of UH-60 Blackhawk Medic helicopters. Our inspiration was to show compassion for the soldiers while stating that more help is on the way.
